Introduction
To advance the objectives of the Universal Basic Education scheme in Nigeria, the society, especially individuals must be ready to work in alliance with the government.
Among the responsibilities of the individuals is to initiate, design, and execute specific projects for the attainment of the objectives of the UBE scheme.
In line with this is the Connect Computer Quest Project, which is a personal community development service project of Bidemi Kolawole, a 2009 batch A corps member currently attached with the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board.



The Project
The Connect Computer is a competition that highlights Adamawa State Junior Secondary School Students’ computer skills and knowledge. The students will be able to unleash their creativity, learn how to convey information more dynamically and enhance the learning process.
The students will be trained intensively in one of the perceived difficult concepts in Computer Studies. They would then be challenged to develop a project using the skills and knowledge acquired.
Participation will be open to any student enrolled in JSS3 in any public secondary school within a selected Local Government Area in Adamawa State. A selection process consisting of elementary computer test items will be used to select the students who will participate in the competition. There will be no entrance fee charged either to the school or student.

Aims
The objectives of this project are geared towards the attainments of the objectives of the Science, Technology & Mathematics Education as well as the objectives of the Universal Basic Education.
Thus, the goals of this project are:
• To develop the interest of the students in Computer Technology.
• The acquisition of basic technology knowledge and skills.
• The development of a reasonable level of competence in ICT applications that will engender entrepreneurial skills.
• The application of technology skills and knowledge to meet societal needs.
• The preparation of the students to take advantage of the numerous technology career opportunities.
• The preparation of the students for further technology studies.

Approach
As the project seeks to challenge students in one of the difficult concepts of Computer Studies, it requires the teacher’s ingenuity and resourcefulness. It would therefore, take a highly practical pupil-centred and activity based approach involving extensive hands on learning, exercises, assignments and projects through peer group teaching, group assignments as well as using the guided discovery approach.
